A community funded pool survey carried out in 1994, demonstrated a strong community desire for a year round aquatic facility on the island.
In the early 1990’s, a Swimming Pool Committee was set up and funds were raised towards the provision of a community pool. The project did not eventuate.
Recreation Waiheke 1994 identified an aquatic centre as a priority for the community.
