New Waiheke Community Pool

New Waiheke Swimming Pool – Where Are We?

The Te Huruhi Community Pool is a collaboration between the Waiheke Pool Society, Te Huruhi Primary School and Swimgym – and of course, you, the community.

Together we are excited to be taking some steps towards an improved facility for the community. As you may know, our goal is a year-round heated indoor facility on Waiheke Island for the benefit of all sectors of the community

Concept Plan – Te Huruhi Community Pool

The Waiheke Community Pool Incorporated (Pool Society) would like to extend a big thank you to everyone who participated in the recent survey conducted for the pool project. We had 635 responses and of these 88% were in favour of the plan.

It was great to see many of you recognising this plan as a feasible step for the Waiheke community given our population size the costs associated with a facility for the island. Whilst we recognise it would be great to have a facility to match those of Auckland city we feel the proposed project can offer a pool sufficient to suit the needs of our community.

There were some valuable suggestions that came through the survey that we will take on board in the planning of the facility. We have been fortunate to have received a grant from the Local Board towards the project that will kick start us into action. These funds are vital to help us get underway.

What’s next? We need to expand on our concept plans with some more detailed designs which will assist us in costing up the project. A project manager will also likely be employed to run the project. Then it comes down to fully funding the project.

The Pool Society are looking for support to help make this dream a reality so we would welcome any ideas and assistance to help get it off the ground. We don’t want to lose momentum so we will be doing what we can to keep the dream alive and get the island a new pool facility.

In conjunction with the Te Huruhi School Board, Waiheke Local Board and the community, we are confident we can make this happen.
