Waiheke Pool Committee

A new Waiheke Community Pool Incorporated Society was formed on the 11th of April 2014 with a purpose of helping drive forward the plans for a new community swimming pool.

The purpose of the society:

  • To lead the community efforts in establishing a new indoor community swimming pool on Waiheke Island
  • Facilitate discussions between key partners for the effective design, development and construction of the pool
  • Play a leading role in representing the community’s views in relation to the new pool
  • Develop a business plan in conjunction with other partners, where applicable, for the effective construction and operation of the new pool
  • Develop and promote community fundraising initiatives and apply for funding on behalf of the pool
  • Promote swimming as a year round activity on Waiheke Island for the benefit of all sectors of the community

Delyth Morgan-Coghlan – Chairperson.

Delyth runs her own business, Let Me Out Ltd and is a former Wales international rugby player who chaired the Welsh Women’s Rugby Union and turned it from an amateur organisation to a professional body over a 5 year period and was also a member of the board of the Sports Council for Wales for 3 years. Janet Vincent – Treasurerjanet_vincent

Janet is a chartered accountant and a former Welsh international basketball player. She has been involved with many Waiheke not for profit organisations since her children were born 9 years ago. She has acted as Treasurer/Accountant for the following organisations:- Waiheke Budgeting Services Trust, Waiheke Adult Literacy Inc, Waiheke Gymnastics Club Inc, Waiheke Judo  and also administers Swimgym Waiheke. Brett McDonald

Brett is a long term island resident and business owner with a passion for ocean swimming. He has been involved with many community organisations and comes with a wealth of knowledge and information about business as well as local connections. He is a company director at Stoney Ridge Ltd, a concrete products company.

Ann Brown – Secretaryann_brown

Ann is an accomplished events manager and lecturer in sports event management. She joins the Pool Society committee as Secretary after retiring as race director of the Fullers Wharf2Wharf Fun Run & Walking event. With her strong commitment to supporting the social wellbeing of communities, Ann’s various roles have included social care planning in the UK, youth development activities in the USA, and she was a co-founder of the Cancer Wellness Community of Central New Jersey in the USA.  Ann moved to Waiheke Island 10 years ago to pursue her Master of Business degree, met her husband and never left.

 

Michelle Barber

Michelle has a wealth of experience in running community events and is a huge asset to our group with a calm head and positive attitude.

 

PROFESSIONAL SUPPORT

We are currently receiving support from a variety of professional people with skills and experiences in building community swimming pools.

These include a Mechanical Engineer with 20 years experience building public pools in New Zealand; an Architects firm with experience of building public pools; a Waste/water engineer who is providing support and research into our waste and water requirements for the pool on Waiheke.

We Need You

We are keen to hear from anyone in the community who would like to be considered for the pool project committee and feel they can provide support in the areas of administration, project management, business, fundraising, construction, sustainability and more.

These will all be voluntary positions where volunteers need to be able to commit some of their spare time to help move the project forward over the course of the next few years.

The committee sees its role as working in partnership with other key stakeholders, helping with the business planning, design and funding of a new pool.

We need a good range of professional skills and people with a can do attitude who are driven to do what’s best for the wider community.
